Walking guided tour around Old Town – 3,5h.

After crossing the river, the neighborhood of Podgórze unfolds on both sides. This is the area where the Jewish Ghetto was situated in WWII. You’ll be able to see some sobering memorials to that dark past on Plac Bohaterów Getta.

Kazimierz quarter – where cultures and religions have meet for centuries – seven synagogues and four churches were built next to each other and has been the symbol of the cultural variety of this location. The smallest of the seven synagogues of Kraków – Remuh, it has long contrasted with the others due to its decidedly more modest decor. After the renovation completed in April 2016, it became the main site of prayer for the members of the Jewish community in Kraków. In 1968 it was visited by the then Metropolitan Bishop of Kraków, Cardinal Karol Wojtyła, and in 1992, President of Israel Chaim Herzog came here to pray. In January 2016, a bench commemorating the hero of the Polish Underground State, witness of the Holocaust, and diplomat – Jan Karski – was set up on the square in front of the synagogue.

Kazimierz quarter used to be one of the most important centers of Jewish culture and religion in Europe in medieval times. Nowadays Kazimierz with all of the small restaurants will steel anyones heart.
